|Sensitivity Comparison Between DAST and ZnTe Probes in The Nonpolarimetric Self-heterodyne Electro-optic Detection System
Owing to characterizing and diagnosing terahertz (THz; 0.1 – 10 THz) devices such as antennas and integrated circuits (ICs), the visualization of electromagnetic waves in near-field region has been a strong demand. My research interest is involved an electro-optic (EO) sensing system in order to realize this demand. One of the critical requirements of this system is a sensitivity. So, I proposed the using of 4-dimethylamino-N-methylstilbazolium tosylate (DAST) crystal, which was fabricated in the cooperative research with ARKRAY Inc., as an EO sensor in our EO sensing system for the enhancement of a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) or the sensitivity of the system. The comparison of the sensitivity between ZnTe and DAST probes in our system was presented in this conference. The enhancement of the SNR over 10 dB was achieved by DAST probe. The visualization of THz waves distribution from a horn antenna was also obtained clearly with this probe as figure below.
